It is Springtime in Colorado Springs, and this is a great time to inspect the exterior of your home for any damage it may have sustained during the past Winter.

Snow, wind, sun, and widely fluctuating temperatures can take a toll on the exterior of your home, especially your roof.

Here are some tips and things to look for to keep your home in peak condition now and for years to come.
  1. Safety first! We recommend that you conduct your inspection from the ground. Don’t try to use a ladder to reach high sections of your home or to climb onto the roof. During the Spring, the ground can be soft and spongy, and may not provide a stable base for ladder. If you believe you have problems that are out of reach, be safe and call a licensed roofing contractor.
  2. Plan your exterior self-inspection on a nice bright day when the sun is high for maximum visibility.
  3. Have your mobile phone with you to take photos of any damage you see. In the event you contact someone for repair services, you can share the photos with them before they come to do a comprehensive professional inspection.
  4. While the intent is to inspect your home, we recommend you begin by examining the garden, shrubs and any trees located close to your structure. If they show signs of damage, there is a good chance you will have damage in other places too.
  5. Carefully look through your thicker shrubs and trees. Loose shingles and spouting may have been blown from your home during high winds and may be concealed by landscaping.
  6. Examine your gutters and down spouting for missing or damaged sections, bent or dented areas, and spouting that is disconnected from gutters.
  7. If you can see your roof from the ground, look for missing, dislocated, or rippled shingles. This is the first indication that you might have sustained damage to your roof that will need repaired. If you have a tile roof, look for cracked, loose, or raised sections.
  8. If the exterior of your home has sustained damage from the Winter, we advise you to have it repaired as soon as possible to avoid further costly damages to the interior of your home. Summer and hail season are right around the corner!
